Dr. Tan is a past President of The Nevada State Board of Nursing. In November 2011, Gov. Brian Sandoval of Nevada appointed Tan to the Nevada State Board of Nursing, with an appointed term from November 2011 to November 2015 and was renewed for his second and last term in the Board until 2019. He currently practice's as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Practitioner specializing in Mental Health and Psychiatry as well as in Behavioral Health and Wellness in his stand alone clinic at iCarePsychiatry in Las Vegas. He is an Assistant Proffesor in residence at the UNLV School of Nursing He advocates for Personalized Medicine or Precision Medicine where he utilizes an innovative science of Pharmacogenetics to identify the most advanced means to match appropriate medications on every individual to enhance effectiveness and minimize side effects. Dr. Rhigel Jay Alforque Tan’s extensive expertise includes clinical training in medical surgical, mental health, emergency room, intensive care, and palliative nursing. He is a certified Advanced Nurse Practitioner in three fields of specializations, as an Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP), Geriatric Nurse Practitioner (GNP) and Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). Tan was previously a tenured professor of nursing at the College of Southern Nevada. Tan’s research foci are in the development of an Evidenced-Based Practice (EBP) training program among internationally educated nurses and the use of human patient simulation technology in nursing. Currently, he is enrolled in a PhD program with research trajectory in Self-Efficacy, Emotional Quotient and Virtual Leadership. He developed the Nurse Apprentice Program of Nathan Adelson Hospice through a grant from MGM-Mirage Foundation and was invited to present the program at a National Hospice Leadership Convention in Washington, D.C. Dr. Tan received recognition as Health Care Hero of Southern Nevada as Educator and the March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Award for Advance Practice in 2004, he was named Outstanding Alumni from Cebu Normal University. He is actively involved in the Asian community of Las Vegas especially among the Filipinos where he cofounded the KALAHI Philippine Folkloric Ensemble, a cultural community-based organization aimed to unite Filipino-Americans in the Las Vegas area through preservation and promotion of the Filipino heritage through arts and culture. He was a board member of the Philippine Nurses Association of Nevada where he initiated the formation of an Evidenced Based Practice Committee of the association. Dr. Tan was also a member of the Clark County Emergency Corps, and the Zetta Kappa Chapter of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nurses. He has a number of interviews on the Las Vegas Review Journal, published in national peer reviewed research Journals and had National TV and local radio appearances advocating for promotion of Mental Health and decreasing Social stigma in mental health access to care .
